To be completely honest Im bored of don’t phone me now. It has been played by every DJ every week since it 1st emerged and it no longer brings any form of excitement to me. The Go On Then dub is different however. I still find my self vibing to it…I can’t wait to get my hands on the instrumental when it’s released on Vynl. Kicked out the game (Wiley) also another boring one with the typical sounding production from Skeamz. The Newham Generals songs are sounding better by the week and Head Get mangled (Sampling Cell 22 I THINK), Bell dem slags and Violence are making me more and more excited about the album. The brand new Skepta tune sounded more than alot. I think it’s gonna be released as a single, not sure whether it’s on the album though. One of my favorite tunes at the moment and on road is the SAY SOMETHING I DONT LIKE Vocal from P Money, Littles and Blacks. This is south’s year for sure. Just watch. Closely. Trim looks like he’s putting in the work with the latest installment of Soulfood (Vol 4). I’ve seen the covers, the tracklisting looks amazing. Very lengthy. Shotta Music Vol 1 was one of the best CD’s to come out last year and by the sounds of NEW BREED MACHINA volume 2 is gonna be even better. The Roll Girl Remix (Despa, Tinie Tempah, Nocturnal) is number 1 on my shopping list. The song is a lot better than Tinchy’s contribution to the charts but I don’t reckon it will get as far. Why? No one will get off there fat asses to buy it. It wouldnt be a 2009 edition of Logan Sama if next hype wasn’t played. He always mixes in another tune with it and this week the mix was Next Hype vs Nocturnal’s “Vet”. It was large !! Big Rem was and will always remain one of my favorite artists. Round we go sounded like a really good production and Rem handled it well. I do miss Essentials a lot. The energy, the vibes..the whole essence. Jendor’s wolf noises, K Dot’s vocals & Rem’s presence made them a crew to be reckoned with. Bossman on the decks was more than a lot and I’m trying to find that legendary set where Logan was on the decks !! That was a madness. It’s a real shame. But still time moves on. This style that Rem proclaims he uses, this “afro-grime” displays an interesting concept. He recently got a single deal in Nigeria, which is IS defiantly the definition of pushing th sound forward. I liked the For This Town over Davinche’s Ryder beat. I hope that beat gets released. thats ME !!

This Ones Better Than Hands In The Air..(Straight Off The Book Review)
Welcome to the first review for Straight Of The Book, the debut release from up and coming South London artist Kozzie. I would just like to say, prior to my hater acclaimed “Long” track-by-track review, that if your mix CD or album doesn’t get reviewed on here, then it probably wasn’t worth buying, or even downloading. Just wanted to clarify that. If you don’t want to read this track per track then please scroll down to the summary section.
1. Intro
What do you expect ? Does what it says on the tin.
2. It’s Me It’s Koz It’s Koz It’s Me
Catchy little phrase he’s got there. “Attitudes strong like garlic/Catch me stealing from market”. A nice opener for the CD featuring a couple of clever lines, managed to keep the flow going throughout the song. Overall 7.10.
3. It’s A Par
This ones the It’s A Par production featured on Wiley’s Grime Wave CD. He handles it pretty well, with a couple of clever lines in there. Im a Drogba in a this so Don’t try mark me//My flows major like Sharkey. No, he’s not Albert Einstein but it’s certainly a start. I’m in a league of my own/There’s no point stealing my thrown. It’s been suggested to me that was a send for Chipmunk, but I suggest otherwise. Nice tune, easy to listen to. Overall 8.10.
4. Come To Your Town w/ Ardest Barrers
What seems to let Kozzie down a bit, is the use of recycled P Money freestyle bars. Which can often be heard during various radio sets and previous/current tunes. As creative as it may be, it does lack the attractiveness of originality. Defiantly something he should work on. But on a positive, Ardest Barrers (Kozzie, Slaughter & Mischeif) work well together as a collective. Ragz Vol.1 was a showcase of sharp flows and to be honest, if I hadn’t of downloaded that I wouldn’t have bought this. On this tune in particular they all show an understanding of timing and flows. Overall 6.10.
5. Government Call Me
Slight elements of Kozzie’s flow and aggresion remind me of an early Griminal. Seriously, the whole starting off on a normal volume level quickly transitions into a hardcore shouting fest directed towards the microphone. Probably the only tune I can switch on where the MC refers to himself as a Full time prick, a little Bas***d and a little s**t all in the one set of 16’s. Nice tune, flow was most on point. Overall 8.10.
6. I Need A Wifey w/O Boi
Another one of them tunes following th current trend of “R&G”. Or “Rhythm & Grime”. I suppose he pulls it off on the verses, but the chorus was awful, it was what I can only assume to be an attempt at an echoed autotune. I stress the word attempt. But, in all fairness the verses do save this tune, with timing intact from both Kozzie and the featured MC O Boi. Overall 5.10.
7. Haters Stay Away From Me
The previous comparison to Griminal comes back into play on this one, especially on the chorus. Intresting this one, the beat seems a little slowed down yet the aggresive flow from Kozzie almost equalises it. Overall 7.10.
8. Step The Levels Up w/Aggro
Upon the playing off this one, I thought the production was the classic “Rhythm & Gash” from legendary Rebound X. That, indeed it was, but not the exact version. This was an interesting refix, featuring Aggro. Here in the grime scene it’s too easy/all youngers out there you can’t beat me. Well to be fair this CD does add a new element to the younger’s situation, but the grime scene doesn’t seem to be “too easy” these days. Nevertheless, a surprisingly nice feature from Aggro who takes a slow approach to the up-tempo productions. Pulled it off however and Kozzie shows rising levels. Overall 9.10.
9. Sounds Like Me
A quick 1 and a half minute freestyle to adress those who are attempting to copy him. Can’t really describe this one. Short and sweet really, nice production from Mr Slash. Overall 6.10.
10. Bassline Beat w/Drifter
I don’t have an extensive or indeed much knowledge of bassline music, as I’m not it’s biggest fan. This one seemed to stick along the lines of Grime with the traditional bassline pulses in the background. All that stuff about Sorry You Are/I’ll be like sorry, pardon, WHAT ?! Sending for Tinchy or Chipmunk. I reckon neither but maybe Chipmunk. I like Kozzie’s mentality, because now he has me guessing who he was sending for and why he was sending for them. To be fair it makes no odds on a nice little tune like this. Overall 7.10.
11. That Ones Air w/ Slaughter & Blacks
My oh my. By far the best tune on the entire CD. Some have disagreed with me but let me assure you, this is a CERTIFIED BANGER. And this is not one of them silly little war report slews, this is a personal issue addressing the MC’s that formed the “Pro2jay Project” which you will probably and aptly remember as the team that brought you the Channel U smash hit “Hands In Da Air”. A series of artists in a budget video with what Kozzie describes as 4 bar repeats. I have no respect for people that make tunes purposely for airplay on Channel U. And now I find myself sitting here promptly agreeing with Kozzie and Slaughters verses, when the tune came out (Hands in the air), them guys thought they were so big. And in the words of slaughter Where are they now ? There was no radio play for the tune. At all. The has been for this one. Final verdict ? That one’s air. Overall 10.10.
12. On This Music w/Drifter
A very close contender for best tune on the CD. A sharp flow from Kozzie with an addictive chorus. Havn’t heard much from drifter previously, he sounds like a sped up Big Rem. Overall 9.10.
13. In A Party Mood
This is definatly one of them CD’s that gets better as it goes along. I thought after track 11 that the quality would start to dip, but nope Kozzie kept on strong. This one is the one that makes you want to just get up and SKANK. No word of a lie, it has, as the title depicts, that party like mood. Overall 9.10.
14. Push It
I might be wrong (highly doubtful), but I dare to say this was an attempt to sample Salt N Pepa’s 80’s diamond “Push It”. It doesn’t sound exactly correct, but the thought is there all the same and the end product is big. Features the classic Kozzie line Thins is/Didn’t even aim for his head/(Name) jammed at his hospital bed. In the end it was a nice freestyle and the odd sample turnt out fine. Overall 8.10.
15. I Am The Best
Can’t remember the exact name of the production, you will recognize it from P Money’s “Grime Scene” vocal. This is probably the first CD I’ve bought that has a standard level that doesn’t slip towards the end. Consistency is defiantly one of Kozzie’s string points. The flow is on point and sounds like was done all in one swoop. But it’s not obvious if you know what I mean (see: chipmunk like losing of breath). Overall 7.10.
16. Iv’e Got The One I Want
What an incredible way to end this CD. Similar to track 6, another “R&G” tune. But people, this one is definatly deep. I think the chorus is provided by Boyz II Men but I could be wrong, my R & B knowledge is not extensive. Overall 9.10.
Summary: Upon telling people on my Facebook that I was writing a review for “Kozzie’s CD” I was bombarded with who’s Kozzie. If you do not buy this CD after this review I want you never to visit this blog again. In fact delete the entire excistance of Grime from your memory cells. Kozzie is a promising young artist, coming from the same area of London that plays host to the collective OG’z. Hopefully one day Kozzie will be brought through into that fold, along with his Ardest Barrers crew. Tracks like Dat Ones Air & I’m In A Party Mood showcase a very much on point flow whereas tracks such as I’ve Got The One I Want and Push show an advanced display of versatility. Kop this as a part of would could be grime gold. Personally, I think he should be brought into Eskibeat where he will be able to showcase his talent with the likes of Ice Kid, Little Dee etc.

Z Dot Interview
I caught up with top West London producer online for a quick interview..here’s what he had to say.
Me: Kool bruv, so what’s been the feedback for Sounds Of Z Dot 2 like so far ?
Z Dot: I’ve recieved a lot of very positive feedback from it, the sounds of Z Dot series is like an experiment for me, to see what formats the listeners prefer. Vol.1 was 100% instrumental; everyone was feeling it. Vol.2 is all vocals except for the bonus mix and people are liking this one aswell. But there was more demand for the instros..
Me: Do you think people expect too much for free these days ?
ZD: It depends, I just feel that people arn’t that grateful for the free releases. A lot of people think that if it’s a free release it’s going to be a compilation of the artists throw-away tracks and write them off before they’ve listened.
Me: I see I see. So what else you got in the pipelines ?
ZD: A lot of stuff. I’ve started work on my mixtape, which will be a full
release. Im also working with a lot of artists on there forthcoming releases, such as Doller Da Dustman’s “Art Of Rhyming”,
Revolver’s “Grime’s Son”, Desperado’s “Life On The Beats”,
Slaughter’s “365” Mixtape, Germz “Out Of Boredom”, Snoopy’s ‘Dog Eat Dog World’ and a lot of others aswell.
Me: So your definatly making movements in the scene ! Would you put that down to one particular factor ?
ZD: Haha. Probably because my work-rate is mad. Ive made a lot of sacrifices to pursue music, I take music very seriously, and its only been in the last year where I’ve been receiving the recognition.
Me: Yes, workrate is definatly the key !! I know your a producer but who would you say are your top 3 MC’s at the moment ?
ZD: Hmmm. I would have to say the three mc’s that are impressing me the most right now are Dot Rotten, Ghetto and Germz. Dot purely because his work rate is high and he comes out with unusual ideas,I rate that highly. Ive allways rated Ghetts, so he has to be in my top 3. Germz is the other mc, hes the most creative artist ive worked with, and if people knew
about the tracks hes got hidden away…(WOW!!!)
Me: Top 3 producers ?
ZD: Top 3 producers? That’s a hard question to answer. Top 3 producers at the moment..Probably say Nocturnal, Dot Rotten & Myself (Zdot)
Me: It’s good that you rate yourself. If you could change one thing about the GRIME scene, what would you change ?
ZD: The snakeyness is ridiculous. It’s not just 1 or 2 people, Its a big
percentage and that’s letting the scene down a lot right now, it’s
getting in the way of big tracks being made. I don’t know if i would
want to change anything else, but I’d definitely bring back vinyl, as
that gave producers a good base to get stuff out there.
Me: Yeah I hate snakes ! Do you think theres too many artists stuck
within their own ends ?
ZD: There probably is, but let them do there thing, its not gonna help
your career if you just attach yourself to one area and never move
around or work with other artists/producers from other areas. To be
honest i think most people who have sense know this…
Me: LOL true RANDOM QUESTION: Who is winning between Wiley and Goodz
at the moment ?
ZD: I was saying Wiley, but then Titch on the last dub killed the whole
thing.
Me: Ite bruv I’m gonna wrap it up there, any shutouts ?
ZD: Big Up Everyone im working with,GO GETTERS, Germz, Doller Da Dustman, Desperado, Brutality, Yellow Boy, Slaughter and everyone else im working with. Big Up All the supporters and everyone that has
