Tempa T Feeding Some Swans…In Scotland…

No, it wasn’t a cruel joke.

Tempa T’s next hype has been undoubtedly the best song of this year. It’s been available to buy along with the instrumental (credit to Darq E Freaker, he’s been overshadowed tremedously on that !) and there’s been various versions flying about, of all my favourite has to be the DJ Oneman Blend. But now the song’s official remixes are available for purchase, featuring remixes from Plastician, Scratcha/DVA and Brackles.

Also out on iTunes.

You can also buy the popular ‘Pars R Us’ T Shirts now from No Hats No Hoods (as modelled below by the man himself).

P Money – Money Over Everyone (Out Soon)

From the streets of South London barring as part of young collective Fatal Assassins, P Money has come a long way. Commonly mentioned as a part of peoples top 10 MC’s, the 21 year old MC has proved that hard work pays off, and that there is some power in the form of free download..

2008s Coins 2 Notes

2008's 'Coins 2 Notes'

‘Coins 2 Notes’ was essentially the break P Money needed. Popular tunes included ‘My Soldiers 2′, ‘Switch’, ‘Money On My Mind’ and a version of G-Dubs popular production ‘Jezebel’. This certainly propelled P to higher places, appearing on radio sets everywhere including Tim Westwood’s BBC 1Xtra show, where he fired shots at East London MC Ghetts.

Later on that year, as a promo to his later coming mixtape P dropped ‘A Little Back Then With Now’, another free venture containing even more shots for Ghetts.

A Little Back Then With Now

A Little Back Then With Now

‘The Grime Scene PT 1″ was a clever song using the names of various different MC’s and CD titles to rhyme and “Sounds and Gimmicks (only a preview then’ used various MC’s trademark bars and noises to create a quite stunning song ! ‘The Other One‘ was radio rip with Money for Ghetts containing the lyrics:

“NA it’s not Kano…..It’s the OTHER ONE”.

‘Who’s Next’ is rip from another westwood show, this time Money guns for Scorcher, and makes reference to Schorcher’s time in prison. Neither Ghetto or Scorcher have directly replied to or addressed the situation until this recent video with Wiley and Ghetts.

The promo did certainly generate hype for his mixtape,  ‘P Money Is Power’.

I rated the mixtape number 1 in my overall top 10 for 2008. Not everyone seemed to agree with me, many complained that the quality of productions let it down (those like DJ Moky, Mastermind etc) but many agreed the vocal qualities were good with great tunes like the OG’s remix of ‘What Did He Say’.

Now P Money is ready to drop his latest project before his album, this one entitled “Money Over Everyone”.

It’s a good cover, note the artists names on the walls.

Little Dee – Once In A Blue (Out August)

Well where to start ?! If you don’t know about 20 year old MC Little Dee then where have you been for the past 5 years. Originally introduced to the grime scene via now vanished crew ‘Fatal Assasins’, with MC’s P Money, McKenzie, Firmer D, Blacks  & Supah Jay plus more, Little Dee has always been on the tip of people’s tongues, be it positive or negative.

Little Dee @ Chockablock

Little Dee @ Chockablock

“I writ a bar showed N.E, n he said that I got the potentials, N that I should keep on writing and one day I should be in Essentials” – an excerpt taken from Little Dee’s song ‘Sometimes’.

Unfortunatly, Essentials never were to make it due to differences between various crew members and via that fall out crew members Jendor and N.E teamed up with Dot Rotten to bring us the crew ‘Organised Grime’ (or OG’s as they’re more commonly known). Dee is now apart of that crew and had input on there 1st mixtape ‘OG Season Vol.1′.

Little Dee is now also a member of veteran grime collective Roll Deep, appearing on the tune “Give Up” which appeared on there latest album “Return Of The Big Money Sound”.

He’s affiliation with there main man Wiley saw Dee at number 3 on the MTV Base charts along with Eski and Manga on the song My Mistakes. Wiley had stuck with “Littles” for some time and Dee has appeared on 4 of Will’s Tunnel Vision mixtapes, as well as being signed to his label ‘Eskibeat Recordings’.

It was Dee’s 1st solo mixtape however, that got everyone talking.

Filled with a consistent and varied 24 tracks, 2007’s Don’t Let The Name Trick You propelled Dee to new heights, with songs such as “F Off Offcier”,  “Real Talk”, “Jezebel” & “I’m Watching” making the release a thought in many people’s top 10 lists.

But 2 years later, Dee is ready to drop his latest CD “Once In A Blue”.

Revolver – Cruel Intentions (Cover & Details)

The name says it all....

The name says it all....

Earlier on this year Edmonton (North London) based MC Revolver dropped his mixtape “Grimes Son”, and marked a return to what many would call “real grime”, during a time where artists were making the transition over into mainstream success.

Now just a few months later and the Cold Blooded MC is finalizing the details for his latest project, a free download entitled “Cruel Intentions”. Production comes from the likes of Scorcher, War Dot, J Beatz, Taz Buckfaster and many more great productions including Revolver going in over La Roux’s chart sucess ‘In For The Kill’. Keep your eyes peeled for this to drop in the next 2 – 3 weeks, “the name is what it is, there’s nothing friendly about this, there’s nothing nice.” Revolver told me.

Don’t forget you can still buy Grimes Son, if you wanna know what it’s about check my review.

J2K – Wake Up EP – Review

Are you sleeping ?

Are you sleeping ?

This isn’t going to be one of my longer reviews. Detailed yeah, but not long. Let me start by letting you know, that the version I bought is from iTunes. So I will have this tracklisting:

  1. Wake up
  2. Landlords ft. Flowdan and Manga
  3. Danger
  4. Lights, Camera, Action
  5. Talk Of The Town Ft. Frisco and Jammer
  6. Big Brother
  7. Vacation Things
  8. We Do Ft. Tex and Alex Mills
  9. Xtra (Bonus – iTunes)
  10. Kick Off Da Hinges (Bonus – iTunes)

So if you want the extra tracks head to iTunes or Amazon Mp3.

I’m gonna kick things off by complementing the artwork. It’s simple yet stylishly effective.

“Wake Up” opens the EP with a bang. An alarm clock leads up to J2K’s frankly superb flow. The production is also quality, complements J2K’s flow nicely. Much the same for “Landlords”.

J2K is rather unfortunatly overshadowed on his own track here. Manga completely destroyed it. Flow Dan’s verse was OK but the tune was ruined by the strange 2-part like chorus. “Danger” is a fantastic track. I played it several times, in a non-corny type of way, it’s almost a “James Bond” sounding type of track. (E-Mail me if you can’t get to grips with that description). The chorus is nice and smooth with the “Danger, Dangerrr” samples.

“Lights, Camera, Action” starts with a rather disturbing “Ooo-Ooo” noise but once J2K’s flowing again that’s all forgotten. In the 2nd and 3rd verses the flow is banana’s !! The beat could’ve been better but it still blends well. “Talk Of The Town” has been battered by Logan Sama so I knew what to expect. Frisc’s feature is good, but I’m yet to be convinced by Jammer’s input. But it’s the man himself who shines. The cool, smooth flow is a lot !

“Big Brother” is another banger ! I like the chorus a lot on this one actually, very catchy. I keep banging on about the flow but holy shit, wow. The bars are actually good on this EP as well.

It’s a par though / more cameras up in here than a pornstar’s asshole”.

“Vacation Things” has the potential to be a great song but the production just really doesn’t catch the vibe. Maybe I caught the wrong vibe altogether. Just not feeling it anyways, the hook’s a bit of a jar as well. Shame as I was struggling to find many flaws so far. “We Do” darkens the mood even more. There’s something cruely sinister abut it, but it’s good, mind. A welcomed return for Tex (Formelly Vortex) he does well and Alex Mills’ vocals add that extra dark touch, J2K done well here.

*Bonus Tracks*

“Xtra” is a good song with a simple starting beat butit deepens later on and allows both J2K and Managa to bury it. “Kick Of Da Hinges” was good, it could’ve worked on the EP itself rather than the just digital option.

I didn’t detail on the bonuses too much ‘cos not everyone has them. Overall, I liked this EP alot. Earlier in the day I was insisting a 5/5 rating, but after a few listens back, It’s fair to say that the production let’s it down at points :( .

FINAL RATING

Originality: 8/10

Lyris: 8/10

Productions 6/10

Total 22/30

4 OUT OF 5 MIC RATING !! STILL IMPRESSIVE.
